 1. Admission Policy

The AMERICAN ACADEMY OF TECHNOLOGY (AAT) admits students based upon their academic achievements and their stated career goals. Particular emphasis is given to orient the student before he enrolls in one of the Academies and their related majors.

Since AAT’s programs are modeled after the American and European higher education programs the Academy admission policy complies with international standards and procedures.  All applicants are considered on the basis of their qualification and aptitude, regardless of sex, race, color, religion, age, handicap, or national origin. AAT has also initiated academic exchange programs with accredited universities both in Lebanon and abroad in compliance with the rules and regulations of each entity.

2.  Application Procedures

Each applicant must complete an Application Form available at the Admissions Office. This form must be submitted at the dates announced by the Academy, and must be accompanied by a non-refundable Application Fee.  No late applications will be accepted.

The following documents must be handed in to the Admissions Office along with the completed application form:

a.      An official copy of the academic grades of the last three scholastic years issued by the secondary school principal and submitted in a sealed envelope.

b.     A certified copy of the applicant’s passport or identity card, or a formal identification card for non-Lebanese students.

c.      Copies of the applicant’s official BACII or BT3 degree or their equivalent.

d.     Transfer students must submit, when required, along with the application for admission, an official transcript of records and a catalog from the previous colleges or universities attended. The academic council evaluates the transcripts and determines the number of credits to be transferred to meet AAT’s curriculum requirements.

e.      Official score reports for the following tests:

·       TOEFL or its equivalent according to the rules followed by American institutions of higher learning.

·       ALC special entrance tests

·       SAT I

·       Aptitude Entrance Examination (AEE), administered by AAT

·       AUB’S, LAU’S, NDU’S (EEE) or (AEE) scores may be considered.

All documents presented by the applicant for admission purposes become the property of AAT, and may not be claimed.

If, for any reason, documents presented by the applicant are deemed fraudulent, AAT reserves the right to suspend the student without refund, or prior notice.

3. Admission Criteria

    a.     Sophomore Level

All students entering AAT for the first year are placed at the sophomore level in conformity with Lebanese regulations. Thus, admission is only open to BACII and BT3 holders or equivalent, and is considered as having completed the Freshman level (thirty credits of advanced standing).

In addition, candidates entering AAT must show proficiency in English. They may either pass:

·       The Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) with a minimum score of 525, or

·       The English Entrance Examination (EEE) administered by the American University of Beirut (AUB) with a minimum score of 500, or

·       The English Entrance Examination (EEE) administered by the Lebanese American University  (LAU) with a minimum score of 500, or

·       The Institutional TOEFL Program exam (ITP) with a minimum score of 525 administered by AMIDEAST.

  b.    Freshman Level

Applicants for the freshman level who have followed a High School program accredited by the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports, based on twelve years of schooling have to obtain, prior to registration, a permit from the Equivalence Committee of the Lebanese Ministry of education allowing them to pursue their higher education on the basis of a foreign program.  Such students will have to sit for the SAT II during their Freshman year at AAT in order to have their freshman class equated to the Lebanese Baccalauréat II.

  c.    Preparatory Level at AAT

Applicants, not holding the official Lebanese Baccalauréat II, or the BT3 or their equivalent, who wish to enroll at AAT but do not meet the above specified freshman level entrance requirements may choose to enroll in any program offered at AAT.   Upon completion of this level successfully, these students will not however be able to sit for the DTS or the BA/BS anywhere in Lebanon’s colleges or universities; yet, they will be able to pursue their education at AAT, and eventually acquire the BA/BS degree via AAT’s US affiliates.

  d.     Remedial Programs

Applicants who score below the specified level on their English Entrance Examinations may be placed in either the Basic English ENG001 remedial course or asked to join the Intensive English program before taking the English courses (ENG101 & ENG102) required for graduation.  The English language programs at AAT are all under the auspices of the American Language Center (ALC) which is affiliated with the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, Mn. USA. Students who wish to study English as a language may apply at AAT for the Competency and/or the Proficiency certificate awarded by the University of Michigan via ALC and AAT.

All students must also sit for the Aptitude Entrance Exam (AEE) in the selected field to determine their ability to pursue a university education.  Based upon their score on this examination, students may be asked to enroll in the MAT001 remedial course.
